Fresh powder: the best French ski resorts you’ve never heard of:
Sainte Foy, Savoie
Increasing numbers of skiing families are cottoning on to Sainte Foy, north of the Tarentaise’s Vanoise national park, as a fantastic alternative to its lively neighbours of Val d’Isère and Tignes. Gorgeous cruisy runs funnel down into the valley, making it hard to get lost, while experienced riders and skiers can discover awesome off-piste lines in the backcountry by hiring a guide when conditions are right.
Ste-Foy is a small, attractive, unpretentious resort developed since 1990, at the foot of what started life as a cult off-piste mountain. It remains excellent for experts but now attracts many others, including families.
-
Safe untracked powder within the lift system, and epic runs outside it
-
Good base for visits to Val d’Isère/Tignes, Les Arcs, La Plagne and La Rosière/La Thuile
-
Great value (including very low lift pass prices)
-
Quiet most of the time
